The Bishop of Chester has offered his prayers and condolences to her Majesty the Queen in a message recorded at Bishop's House this afternoon following the announcement of the death of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh has died, aged 99, Buckingham Palace has said. In a statement released shortly after midday, the Palace said: "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Bishop Keith Sinclair gave his final sermon as the Bishop of Birkenhead on Sunday 07 March and retired from the role the following day, exactly 14 years after he took up the post. Watch the service and read his final sermon here.
