Triple Eco-Church awards for Tarporley parish

The three churches that received the Bronze awards are St Helen's in Tarporley, St Thomas' in Eaton, and St John and the Holy Cross in Cotebrook.

The Bronze award is a recognition that the churches have made progress in assessing and changing how they use the land and buildings in their care, as well as how they connect and care for the environment with the local community and in worship.

The Revd Jim Bridgman (pictured) comments: "This is a great achievement for us, and a testament to the work of our Eco Team in assessing how we can be greener as Christians. My thanks especially to Walter Gibson, Nick Parker, and Andrew Needham for their commitment and enthusiasm. Bronze is just the first step though, and we'll be continuing to see how we can further improve and change how we live and act as the church in this parish!"

Some of the things that the churches have done to change the impact on their land include changing the mowing regime in their graveyards, planting more wildflowers and bulbs, and making bird and bat boxes available. They have also committed to using recycled paper and recycled materials and eco-friendly lightbulbs to reduce energy consumption.
