Revd Lesley Currie is the Dean of Women in Ministry

The Revd Lesley Currie is the newly appointed Dean of Women in Ministry for the Diocese of Chester. She will support ordained and lay women in ministry and encourage them to apply for senior posts, diocesan groups, and committees.

In the video below, filmed in the grounds of Foxhill in Frodsham, she spoke with Bishop Mark about her appointment.

Lesley says: "As the daughter of one of the first women ordained in St Paul's Cathedral, I've seen the journey, so far, anyway, and I know there's more to go. So I think, for me, it's about working out what's the next step of the journey."

The remit for this post includes:

  • Supporting ordained and lay women in ministry, particularly in parishes that have voted for Resolutions A, B or C, or all three.
  • Raising issues with the Director of Ministry and the bishops and archdeacons to highlight blatant discrimination, harassment, and abuse of women.
  • Encouraging women clergy to apply for senior posts, diocesan groups, and committees.
  • Advising other clergy on women’s issues.
  • Keeping in touch with the wider, including the National Association of Diocesan Advisers for Women in Ministry and nominating women to attend the Windsor Consultations for Women Clergy each year.
  • Advising on appointments where necessary.
  • Being alongside women with ministerial difficulties.
  • Encouraging a wholeness of priestly ministry with both men and women working happily alongside each other.
