Pentecost at the Cross

On Sunday 8 June, Revd Jonathan Philips stood outside St. Peter’s at the Cross, Chester where dozens of churches had gathered to celebrate the birthday of the Church. Fifty days after Easter, the day marked the coming of the Holy Spirit and the baptism of thousands — a moment they joyfully acknowledged with a resounding “Happy Birthday” to the Church.

To mark the occasion, 200 party bags were being handed out. Party bags included small cakes and informational leaflets and the Calvery Love City Gospel Choir added to the festive atmosphere with their singing, just one example of the many churches involved in this special day.

Revd Philip emphasised the unity of the occasion: “We are unity at the Cross.” Church leaders in the area meet once a term to pray for their city, and on this day, their entire church families came together.
