Congratulations to Liz Cooper, Reader at St James' Church, New Brighton, who set off on Easter Monday to walk the El Camino Francés — from St Jean Pied de Port in the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela, Spain (St James' Way). Her pilgrimage is in support of the restoration and redevelopment of St James' Church, New Brighton.
Revd Heather Atkinson will be flying out to join Liz, and together they will continue to Cape Finisterre, carrying with them the prayers of our parish — just as Martin Sheen did in the film The Way, which the church studied during their Lent Course two years ago.
This morning (19 May) Liz shared a photo showing she is now approximately 30km from Santiago de Compostela. She is expected to complete her pilgrimage early on Tuesday 20 May.
Next weekend, several members of our congregation will walk five miles in a sponsored event, joining Liz in spirit and supporting her cause.
