The Singing Kettle celebrates its first birthday

When a time-slot became free at the local church hall in Stretton, the church members decided to put their heads together to see what they could do for the local community. They looked at their combined skills of tea making, cake baking, and music playing and decided that it would be a great idea to combine all of these in a monthly event they call 'The Singing Kettle'.

On 26 March 2019, The Singing Kettle celebrated its first birthday and there wasn't a spare seat in the house.

The Revd Alan Jewell, vicar of St Mathew's, Stretton and St Cross, Appleton Thorn plays guitar and the ukelele and leads a merry troop of band members.

The idea for the Singing Kettle was devised by Revd Alan Jewell and Sheila, a Pastoral Worker in the parish. Sheila had for some time wanted to do something for the lonely, isolated, the cared for and their carers. Following several conversations with Alan, it became apparent that they both had the same wish.

"Alan agreed to provide the music and I agreed to arrange everything else," said Sheila.

The first Singing Kettle was launched on the 26 March 2018 and since then it has gone from strength to strength. At the first meeting, there were fifteen people and now there are regularly over forty.
