Clergy Housing

Important update on clergy housing

We appreciate that this is again a very difficult time for clergy and their families, and we assure you of our continued prayers at this time.

Church House staff in the property department continue to work normally from home as they have done since last March and you should initially direct any questions or report property issues to them.

You can email Jane on

Or Alan on or T: 07540 725112.

Emails continue to be monitored and responded to during normal “office hours”.

As per the previous lockdown in 2020 we plan to proceed as follows:

  • Existing projects which are already underway will continue, provided that contractors are able to work in accordance with current Government advice, and provided that the personal circumstances of those living in the house would not prevent this.
  • We will be postponing Quinquennial Inspections for the time being.
  • Gas Safety inspections will continue to take place as per Government and Gas Safe instructions and the potential safety implications of not doing so.
  • Other inspections will be delayed where it is safe to do so.
  • Only urgent and essential repairs will be carried out at this time. All non-urgent work and improvements will be deferred.

As always in the event of a housing emergency out of office hours over this lockdown period, these contractors are continuing to provide emergency cover. However, please consider whether the matter could wait until instructions can be given during office hours by the Property Department.

If in doubt, please contact Alan or your Archdeacon for guidance in the first instance.

THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT is responsible for all clergy housing and a number of DBF owned property and all glebe land / property.

(If you need advice on church buildings and churchyards,  please see separate tab for ‘Church Maintenance'.)

Housing plays a vital part in the ministry of clergy and the Housing Team together with the Houses and Glebe Committee endeavour to ensure that all those who occupy parsonage houses feel secure and comfortable in their homes allowing them to carry out their ministry work.

We will arrange to carry out repairs as required and undertake 5-yearly Quinquennial Inspections (QI’s) of all houses to check that they continue to be effective and suitable for purpose.  We work within the constraints of a finance budget and consequently do need to prioritise works.

We are here to help – if there are any repairs required to the property or you need advice on any maintenance issues, your first call should be to :
