The Archdeacon of Macclesfield, the Ven Ian Bishop, has asked that people remember in their prayers all those affected by the moorland fires and especially those who have been forced to evacuate their homes in the communities of Carrbrook and Millbrook.
St James, Millbrook, has been open all night to offer hospitality and welcome to anyone affected or in need of support and refuge.
Speaking last night, Revd Chris Viney said: "We are here for the villages of Millbrook and Carrbrook so if there is a need for anybody to take refuge tonight if they've got to leave their home, we've got a place of welcome, we've got refreshments and anybody is welcome."
Tameside Council helpline – 0161 342 2222 – has been set up to offer assistance for those who were evacuated.
