Nikki Bennett, Poet in Residence at Chester Cathedral has written a poem to celebrate the day.
Nikki is a great believer in poetry as both communication and therapy, and in particular the highlighting of women’s issues and circumstances. Her collection Love Shines Beyond Grief was nominated for the ‘Ted Hughes Award for New Poetry’ 2010.
Women's World Day of Prayer
Pray, prier, beten, orar, molite.
My small voice whispers out into the breeze
and joins yours, your mother's,
your sister's, your aunt's, your niece's.
Pray for family.
It turns a corner and swells into the wind
and meets your friend's, your colleague's,
your workmate's, your sportsteam's.
Pray for friends.
It gathers speed, up higher in the air
and reaches your cousin's, your penpal's,
your facebook, your instagram.
Pray for acquaintances.
It spreads out huge distances
infiltrates far circles, corners,
crosses seas, mountains, valleys.
Pray for communities.
Our multi-voices sound out -
joining, meeting, reaching, gathering
power, strength, authority -
around the world.
ruga, dua etmek, Barya, berdoa, pray.
