Parish signers in hearing and sight fest 2014

undefinedA special service will be held at St Matthew's church, Stockport, to launch a week-long festival for people with vision and / or hearing difficulties. ‘See & Hear Stockport' will take place at Walthew House, in Shaw Heath, Stockport, SK2 6QS, from Monday 29 September to Saturday 4 October.

But first, a fully-accessible service of blessing for the festival will be held at  the church in Grenville Street, Edgeley, Stockport, SK3 9EE, on Sunday 28 September, starting at 11.15am. The service will benefit from the presence of members of our diocesan signing team, full braille service sheets and other resources.

The parish was asked to provide the blessing service, and our signers have been invited to attend the first day of ‘See & Hear Stockport’ where they will spread the word about St Matthew’s regular signed service.

The festival – which will feature poetry readings, performances from a visually- impaired steel band, and a display of resources and technological aids – is organised by Walthew House, Stockport’s blind and deaf centre. Ann Coffey MP will open the festival.

Pam Robinson – a member of the signing team within our Committee for Social Responsibility (CSR) and Community Development Manager at St Matthew’s – said: “This is a great example of both how we can show God’s love to all people, and how local churches can build relationships with organisations that do great good.”
