Training to offer Pastoral Supervision for clergy

We will soon be offering courses for clergy looking to receive pastoral supervision. In conjunction with this, we are also running training for those who could act as supervisors. Could you be one of those people?

You may have seen in recent weeks, the Diocese of Chester is launching a pilot project in partnership with the Institute for Pastoral Counselling and Supervision, offering pastoral supervision as a resource for licensed clergy. To support this initiative we are looking for people who could act as supervisors. Ideally, supervisors should have experience in areas such as counselling, coaching and pastoral supervision. This is open to lay people as well as clergy, though there is an application process (with a deadline for application of Monday, 6 February). An application form, available by request, includes information on what would be involved in offering pastoral supervision and in the training course, which takes place over three days (daytime only) at Foxhill on 13-15 March.

For an application form, please email Jane Hood – jane.hood@chester.anglican.org

What is pastoral supervision?

Pastoral supervision is distinct from spiritual direction or accompaniment, work mentoring, coaching or therapeutic counselling – though it is complementary and works with such resources. The Revd Simon Chesters, Director of Ministry in the Diocese of Chester likens it to a trellis and says pastoral supervision provides a structure that “enables growth, as we seek fruitfulness and are open to pruning.” For more information take a look at a recent article on our website, titled  'A new pastoral supervision resource to benefit clergy'

Introduction to Pastoral Supervision

If you are a licensed ordained minister in the Diocese of Chester and would be interested in receiving pastoral supervision, we still have some spaces on the one-day Zoom course on Tuesday 28 February on Zoom 10.00-4.30
