Melanesia hit by Tropical Cyclone


Part of our link province of Melanesia has been hit by a natural disaster.

In early May Vanuatu and the Banks and Torres Islands were seriously affected by a devastating storm – Cyclone Donna. Many homes and other buildings have been damaged and destroyed, there is a lack of safe drinking water, and planting areas have been washed away. Food supplies are expected to run out in June.  There have also been reports of illness following the storm.

Many villages are in isolated areas and travel to these areas is very expensive. The Melanesian Mission UK (MMUK) has launched an appeal to raise money for the Anglican Church of Melanesia to provide emergency supplies to these communities.
