Gordon Giltrap in Alsager

undefinedA group of young people from Alsager in the south of our diocese plan a visit to South Africa to assist a project that works for the poor and the disadvantaged. But first a fundraising concert featuring guitarist Gordon Giltrap will take place at St Mary's church in Crewe Road.

The youngsters each need to raise £1,000 to cover their air fares and materials needed for their project.

The gig will be on Saturday 4 October, starting at 7.30pm. The licensed bar at St Mary’s will open at 6.15pm. Tickets cost £15. Phone 01270 875139 or email giltrapconcert@aol.com

Gordon Giltrap toured widely in the late 1970s and still performs regularly today. His hit ‘Heartsong’ was the theme tune to the BBC tv’s Holiday programme when it was fronted by Judith Chalmers.

Gordon performs across a range of music genres, including folk, pop and progressive rock.

It’s hoped the concert will greatly boost the fund-raising for the ambitious planned trip by young people from Christ Church to South Africa.

Jonathan Masters (Christ Church youth leader) will lead the trip to Project Gateway, based at the old prison in Pietermaritzburg in South Africa, where political prisoners were kept.

Project Gateway is anchored in the building from where as it goes out to help the poor and disadvantaged.

The youngsters will be part of volunteer teams doing painting and cleaning tasks at the building.
