Friends from Melanesia Visit the Diocese of Chester

We were very pleased to welcome visitors from our link province of Melanesia to the diocese recently. The Archbishop of Melanesia, George Takeli, his wife June, the General Secretary (Dr Abraham Hauriasi) and the Mission Secretary (Fr Nigel Kelaepa) spent several days in the diocese, visiting churches, schools, the University of Chester and other groups.

There were very helpful discussions about how to develop the link between the church in Chester and Melanesia, which we shall now be taking forward together.

Michael Gilbertson, the Archdeacon of Chester, who helped to organize the visit, said ‘Welcoming Archbishop George and June Takeli, Abraham and Nigel to the diocese was a great privilege for us. We have so much to learn from our brothers and sisters in the Melanesian Church about Christian living and ways in which the church can have a confident and positive role in wider society. The link we have is well-established, and we look forward to its future development.’
