Cheshire Churches Golf Day 2012

The third annual Cheshire Churches Golf Day was held on earlier this month at Heyrose Golf Club near Wincham. Eighty golfers took part in a competition that is now well established in the churches' sporting calendar.

The Ven Ian Bishop, Archcdeacon of Macclesfield, and one of the organising team, said: “The aim of the event is to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford and the East Cheshire Hospice at Macclesfield, but at the same time to have some good-natured competition and celebrate the God we follow.”

The £1100 raised will be split between the hospices to help fund their work.

The winner overall was Steve Gardner, a parishioner of St John’s Hartford. He is pictured receiving the Cestr Cup (given by Bishop Peter) from Helen Scott of the East Cheshire Hospice.

There was a terrific after dinner speech by the Revd Roger Sutton, former minister of Altrincham Baptist Church. The whole event was great fun despite one torrential downpour halfway through the round.

The competition is open to anyone. Next year’s event will be on Friday June 7 at Heyrose Golf Club. You can register early interest in entering a team next year by emailing Archdeacon
