Bishop Libby legally made Bishop of Derby

Bishop Libby Lane has legally been made the Bishop of Derby. The Service of Confirmation took place at St Mary-le Bow, Cheapside, on Monday 11 February 2019.

The central London church is the traditional home of such occasions and the service conferred the legal authority of the role to Bishop Libby.

What does this mean for the Diocese of Chester?

In practical terms, this means Bishop Libby is no longer the Bishop of Stockport and the position is currently vacant. Bishop Libby will continue to fulfil her Sunday commitments until 17 March.

There will be an opportunity to bid her farewell at a special farewell service at Chester Cathedral on 30 March. For those who wish to attend the farewell service, applications for tickets can be made up until the deadline of 25 February.

Bishop Libby will continue to be based at Bishop’s Lodge in Dunham until she moves to Derby in April. Bishop Libby will be installed at Derby Cathedral after Easter.
