Whitegate Village Fair

Date: 30th June 2018

Time: 12:30

Whitegate traditional village fair is being held as usual on the village green, school and playground on 30th June, from 12.30pm. This year we are holding the 63rd consecutive event in our village but we have moved the date to the end of June as our usual date was chosen by Prince Harry and Megan Markle for their wedding day. We hope this will mean that the weather is perfect and more child-centred games can be held including soak the teacher, hook a duck and spin to win. There will be the opportunity to have your face painted as a character for the afternoon and your hair braided as these are always popular.

The maypole dancing will be on the green and here the ribbons will be woven into an intricate pattern around the decorated pole. This year the King and Queen leading the parade will be Jake Blockley and Katie Wilkinson this is a colourful spectacle with many of the children from the school taking an active part in these traditional ceremonies.  Some new and traditional games will be set out for children of every age to try and there will be a raffle with many valuable prizes.  Raffle tickets will be available on the day or in advance from a committee member.

The various stalls will be packed full of toys, games, plants, bric-a-brac, books, cakes and other produce. Delicious teas will be available in the new school hall and also in the refurbished Mews during the afternoon. Homemade cakes, scones, biscuits and a variety of sandwiches will be served with tea, coffee and soft drinks, come and see our new facilities as well as the colourful and traditional fair.  Look out for the Strawberries and Prosecco area as this is new to the fair for this year.

St. Mary’s Church will be open for a selection of fun summer songs for you to enjoy. It will be a most enjoyable and colourful event so come along and join us for the afternoon. All proceeds contribute to the upkeep of St Mary’s Church and the village school. Our thanks to the headmistress and staff of Whitegate school for permission to use their new hall and grounds to enlarge the fair this year.
