Go Deeper into Youth Work
What is it? A part –time course held over three terms, and validated by The University
of Chester. It is intended for those who wish to develop their
understanding and skills in Youth Work in a church context. The Church
Colleges’ Certificate is a nationally recognised award, and, if you complete
the accreditation requirements, will give you credits to take into further
study if you wish. It is the same level as the Chester Diocese Foundations
for Ministry Course which is 60 credits at H.E. level 1
Course Content The course is organized into four modules:
Context, leadership and relationships in Youth Work Spirituality, faith development and worship in Youth Work Youth work practice and theological reflection Shaping the tools: Study skills in youth work and theological reflection. Practicalities The course is spread over three terms, starting in September 2007. Each term there will be one day study sessions (Saturday, 10.00am to 4.00pm) and the equivalent of ten evening sessions (7.30pm to 9.30pm) The course will be held at Warrington Campus of the University of Chester. The cost of the course will be £135 per person for the year. Fees are payable on application – either for the year or termly instalments. Please ask your church to assist you with course expenses. Entry Requirements You do not need a formal academic qualification to do the course. However, you do need to have some active involvement in Youth Work in a church context and you will need to seek agreement of your minister when you apply. Entry to the course is conditional on the production of a current, (less than two years old) satisfactory CRB disclosure certificate at the enhanced level. You will be asked to produce this as part of your application process. You can arrange this through your Youth Officer. Programme Leaders The Church Colleges' Certificate in youth work will be delivered in an interactive way by a combination of the youth officers and experienced youth workers from the Diocese of Blackburn, Chester and Manchester.
