So I'm doing an assembly - what do I need to know ?

What time does the assembly start and what time do I need to be there ?

What age groups will be in the assembly?

Have I tailored my talk to the age group present?

Are my illustrations/props appropriate for the children?

Worship environment

Where does worship take place?

Is there a physical focus (table, candles, cross)

Where do the children sit?

Will there be someone to introduce me and how will I know when it's my turn to talk?

Do the children use any responses?

eg ‘The Lord be with you’ …………

or ‘Go in peace to love and serve the Lord’…………

How long?

Is there a set time for the assembly to finish?

Do the children go out to play after the assembly.

How long does my talk need to be?

Is there a theme for the week/term?

Music

Shall I organise any hymns or songs?

How are the children involved in worship?

Prayers

Does the talk go straight into prayers?

Who takes the prayers?

Are there any regular prayers used in the school eg school prayer or prayer cards.

What prayers do the children know? Which Lord's Prayer do they say? Do they join in the grace?

Blessing/Closing prayer

Shall I give a blessing at the end of the service?

How did I do?

Who will tell me honestly?
