The Process

Parochial Church Council (PCC) appointed Foundation Governors
When the Governor’s term of office is due to expire:
• The ex officio (if they deem it appropriate) will contact the governor and ask if they wish to stand for a further term.
• If they are willing the PCC should ratify the appointment. If they are not, the ex officio should approach another suitable candidate.
• Again this appointment should be ratified by the PCC.
• In both cases the Foundation Governor Nomination/Election Form should be filled in and returned to Church House.
• A letter will then be sent to the appointed governor and the Local Authority informed.

Chester Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) appointed Foundation Governors
We take the advice of the ex officio governor with regards to Board of Education appointed Foundation Governors.
When the Governor’s term of office is due to expire:
• The ex officio (if they deem it appropriate) will contact the governor and ask if they wish to stand for a further term.
• If they are willing, the Board of Education should be informed. If not, the ex officio should approach another suitable candidate.
• In both cases the Board of Education must be informed of the recommendation via the Foundation Governor Nomination/Election Form.
• A letter will be sent out from Church House formally appointing the governor to the post and the Local Authority will be informed.

The ex officio may choose to transfer either of these processes to the PCC.


NB The Local Authority will not record the governor’s details until they have received confirmation from our office.

Resignations
If a foundation governor tenders their resignation it is important that this information is sent to the office so that our records are kept up to date and the Local Authority informed.

Foundation Governors are essential to a Church School, it is therefore imperative that there are no foundation governor vacancies.

From this page you can download the necessary forms to nominate and appoint foundation governors and there is also a form for governors to complete declaring they are not disqualified from acting as a governor.
