Common Tenure

All clergy who do not currently have the freehold will move to a new form of holding office called "Common Tenure" from 1 February 2011.

Those incumbents who have the freehold have a choice as to whether to retain this status or to move to Common Tenure. All new appointments from 1 February 2011 will be on Common Tenure. The national website: www.commontenure.org gives helpful information.

The aim of this diocese is to ensure that the issues and implications of Common Tenure are communicated as widely as possible and that there is widespread consultation on the new policies and procedures. Common Tenure represents a significant change in the conditions of service for clergy with an entitlement for support and development in their ministry.
