Churches and schools – working together This page has a list of ideas to help churches get involved with their local schools and to help schools make the most of their local churches. To add your own ideas for others to use please email: sandra.james@chester.anglican.org
Ideas
- Members of the congregation come in on a regular basis to listen to children read and help in maths
- School visits the church for special services and to help with RE
- Members of the congregation meet in the school on a Monday morning to pray for the staff and children of the school
- A weekday service after school is held for parents and their children to come and worship together in a service designed just for them
- The local church runs a breakfast club for the school which is free of charge
- A member of the congregation runs parenting classes for parents of the church and school
- The local church provides after school activities as part of the extended services provision for the school
- Holiday clubs are held in many churches with a mixture of Christian teaching and fun activities providing support for families and links with children
- The local school takes the family service once a month at the church
- The local headteacher is a member of the PCC and so brings the needs of the local children to the heart of Church business.
- Local churches provide ‘its your move’ and Bibles to children as they leave primary school and move to high school
- The local youth leader runs Christian youth clubs after school for secondary age children
- Some churches have set up support groups for local teenage mothers who may find attending other toddler/baby groups daunting.Easter
