Meet the priest with a ‘murderously’ good cause
A CLERGYMAN from our Diocese is being portrayed as the murder suspect known to millions as “Rev. Green” for a new hi-tech version of the popular board game, Cluedo. The man who is helping to launch the new interactive version of the game is the Revd Rob Green, associate vicar at Norbury parish church (St Thomas), Hazel Grove. He went to London earlier this year for the publicity launch - in character as his clerical murder suspect namesake, who in the new version of the game is accused of money-laundering. “Actually, it was money-raising that I was involved in, because the game is being launch by the manufacturer Hasbro to aid the charity DebRA, which supports those affected by the incurable and sometimes fatal skin-blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa,” said the real Revd Green. As well as attending the media launch in London (along with real life versions of the other famous murder suspects, “Professor Plum” and “Miss Scarlett”) he also raised extra funds for the charity by a sponsored preach-a-thon. He recently preached a continuous succession of sermons, covering the whole of the Gospel of St Mark, at Norbury parish church, Hazel Grove. He said: “If you were going to do something as reckless as preach through an entire Gospel in a day you would have to choose Mark. It is the shortest Gospel and moves along at a breathless pace. “Mark shows us Jesus ministering to the sick and the needy demonstrating both God’s power and his compassion.” DebRA was formed in 1978 by a group of parents whose children were affected the condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), the condition suffered by the “The Butterfly Children”, where skin is as fragile as a butterfly wing and can blister at the slightest touch. Normal daily activity can cause terrible pain and scarring, which leads to increasing disfigurement and disability. The rub of bed sheets, playing, falling over, or even a parent’s cuddles can lead to painful blistering. * Local girl Melissa Craven, aged eight, has EB. A pupil of Hazel Grove Primary School, in the Revd Green’s parish, she has been honoured with a “Children of Courage” award for her bravery in coping with the illness. To pledge support for Rob’s preach-a-thon, including post-event donations, please telephone Revd Green on 01625 858680 or visit the website www.justgiving.com/revgreen (01/11/04)
