Join the great Diocesan pilgrimage 2007
PLANNING is underway for a Diocesan pilgrimage to Israel in the spring of 2007. It is hoped it will be as successful – or even better – than the pilgrimage made six years ago. Up to 200 people are expected to go on the new pilgrimage, including Bishops Peter, David and Nigel. Bishop Peter said: “We will obviously keep a close eye on the political situation, but over the past year there has been a lot of pilgrimage activity, and we are confident that the time is right to mount this initiative. “Our main emphasis will be on the historic biblical sites, and the experience of visiting them invariably brings the Bible to life in new and powerful ways. “We are using the same specialist travel agency which arranged the very successful pilgrimage in 2000. We will use a special charter flight from Manchester. “The hotels will be excellent, and we plan to have exclusive use of a dining room each evening, which will give opportunities to come together to reflect upon the day, to plan the following day, and on occasion to have special speakers. The pilgrimage will be three days longer than the previous one, which will enable us to make visits not possible then.” Among the sites likely to be included are the Mount of the Beatitudes on the shore of Lake Galilee, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Dead Sea (including bathing for those who want it), the Via Dolorosa, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and other historic places in Jerusalem. • The price includes half board in first class hotels, plus all tours and transfers at £1200 per person (single supplement of £179 applies). Booking forms and brochures are available from the Revd Canon Diane Cookson, St Saviour’s Vicarage, St Saviour’s Road, Great Moor, Stockport SK2 7QE. The quoted price is subject to currency fluctuations. Bookings on a first come, first served basis.
