A new era begins for our Readers

THERE is cause for celebration for Readers on the afternoon of Sat 15 Oct when at the cathedral Bishop Peter will license 19 new Readers, as well as welcoming others who are transferring from other dioceses and those being awarded Emeritus status.

This year has the added feature of welcoming a dynamic and gifted new Warden of Readers, the Revd John Knowles  of Woodford parish, who himself served as a Reader for many years before his ordination. Prior to moving to Chester Diocese, John worked as head of a school in Scotland.

Chester Readers will also be saying a fond thank you to Bishop Colin Bazley who retires after a very successful five years as Warden, during which time he has been a great inspiration and encourager of Reader ministry. Bishop Colin and his wife Barbara will continue to be living on the Wirral.
