Christmas Tree festival with ‘wow!’ factor
FOUR-year-old Hugo Jamison (pictured right) puts the final touches to one of more than 50 Christmas trees that filled Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Wilmslow, with festive cheer for Advent. Hugo is one of the youngest parishioners but people of all ages from the parish, and from local schools and organisations such as the Scouts and the Guides, are contributed trees. The Friends of the Parish of Wilmslow organised the Christmas Tree Festival as part of a drive to encourage more members of the community to visit the 16th century St Bartholemew’s Church, (known locally as St Bart’s) which has exceptionally beautiful stained glass windows, including a nativity window above the high altar. Secretary of the Friends, Mrs Barri Newcomb, said: “We wanted everyone locally to experience the church in all its Christmas sparkle and magic. We had some spectacular and highly imaginative decorations on the trees. “Now they’ve all gone back to their normal sites in homes and organisations locally. Thanks very much to the hundreds of people who got involved in decorating our trees. There was a real ‘wow!’ factor to the event.” More than 1,000 visitors went to see the festival and the church was packed for the associated carol singing.
