The perfect gift for Christmas…
CHILDREN from a Diocesan school are singing their hearts out to help women and children affected by social problems. Youngsters from St Bridget’s C of E Primary School, West Kirby, are featured on a CD released for the Christmas market which will help fund a full-time Mothers’ Union (MU) worker. The schoolchildren sing “Away In A Manger” and other seasonal favourites on the CD “Carols from Chester”. St Mary’s Church Choir, Eastham, south Wirral, and the Wirral-based Chandale Handbell Ringers also feature on the CD. The MU hope that proceeds from sales of its CD will raise £7.000 per year towards the cost of employing a full-time worker for three years. The remaining money will come from the Church of England and the MU’s central funds. The worker will be appointed next spring and will be involved in parenting projects, work with ageing and the elderly, bereavement, marriage preparation and baptism follow-up work. The Christmas CD is dedicated to Mothers’ Union stalwart Joan Cleave of West Kirby, who died earlier this year (September 2004). MU trustee Jeanette Appleton, who had the idea for the CD, said: “We want the CD to promote the MU as a modern organisation. It will engage younger people in our projects and get across our message of caring for families.” * “Carols from Chester” costs £6, including post and packing. It can be ordered through local Mothers’ Union branches or via the website www.mothersunionchester.co.uk . The CD is also available at Linghams bookshops in West Kirby and Heswall, the Lady Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight, and the Christian Bookshop in Birkenhead. (01/11/04)
