Capt Bob’s holy bus of God
CAPTAIN Rob Barker of the Church Army has arrived in Ellesmere Port to start his ministry as leader a special bus project. The scheme uses a double decker bus to tour the Diocese with the aim of bringing unchurched youngsters into a connection with God. Captain Rob, who is also associate minister with the Ellesmere Port team parish, will respond to invitations from parishes across our diocese to visit various localities in his bus. The 46-year-old evangelist, whose home town is Birkenhead, told CDN how the Church Army Bus Project works. He said: “We meet with predominantly young people and we meet them in their own local environments. Gradually, we build up relationships and introduce them to the Christian faith and work out a way for them to grow spiritually. “Along the way we hope to have some fun and certainly some robust debate in which everyone can engage.” Captain Rob can speak with some experience on the subject. He has led the bus project in the Diocese of York for the past seven years and seen it work wonders in people’s hearts and minds. He said: “The experience in Yorkshire was a big delight. The project gained quite a following and lots of very active volunteers working in support of it .At the same time those volunteers grew enormously in their evangelistic gifts. “Among the young who come to the bus project we see many of them turning their lives around and growing in understanding of who they are in Christ.” If your parish would like a visit from the bus project please telephone Captain Rob on 0151 356 0040 or email him
