A farewell service for Bishop Nigel

A LEAVING service for the Rt Revd Nigel Stock, Bishop of Stockport, will be held at Saint George’s Stockport on September 10, starting  at 7.30 pm

Bishop Nigel is to become is to be the new Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

Nigel Stock has served as the Bishop of Stockport for the past six years. He said:  “I have been privileged to witness so many good things going on in mission in the Diocese of Chester. Part of the joy of a bishop’s ministry is to get to know many different parishes, to learn more of a great variety of ministries and meet so many faithful Christian people.”

In August’s Chester Diocesan News he writes, in a farewell article: “I have seen the Holy Spirit at work in many ways in the churches of the Diocese of Chester. Faith is alive and lively. The clergy of our Diocese are hardworking, loyal, faithful and effective. Of course, following Jesus is not easy and there are huge challenges to our claims in Him. There always have been. But whenever Jesus is made the priority, as opposed to institutions and habits, faith comes alive and great things are accomplished.

He adds:  “There will be time to say thank you to everyone in the Diocese of Chester in due course, but I would like to express my gratitude now to the Bishop of Chester for all his trust, support and confidence.”

Bishop Nigel’s enthronement as the tenth Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich is likely to take place in the autumn.
