Bishop David is honoured as he departs
THE Bishop of Birkenhead has been granted the freedom of Wirral a recognition of his contribution to community life in the borough. The Right Reverend David Urquhart, was granted the honour last month by Wirral Council, shortly before he departed for a visit to China before taking up his new ministry later this autumn as Bishop of Birmingham. Bishop David, who was chairman of the Wirral Local Strategic Partnership, said: It is a great honour to be given the freedom of Wirral, an area for which I have great affection and admiration. I have made many friends locally and have enjoyed serving the parishes and being involved with schools and inner urban communities. The late Lord Chan, who was vice president of the Wirral Multicultural Organisation was also granted freedom of the borough. He and Bishop David become only the fourth and fifth people to be granted the honour since the borough was created 32 years ago.
