An organ 'transplant'
AN organ originally located in St Mark’s Church, Birkenhead, has been bought by a Dutch organ music foundation. The Henry ‘Father’ Willis organ, dating from 1892, still bears the plaque it was given when purchased for the church in Birkenhead. It reads: “To the glory of God and in memory of Henry and Sarah Harrison. This organ was given by their daughters.” The organ was removed in 1991 prior to the church’s demolition. Now it’s been purchased and will be restored and installed in the Hooglandse Kerk, in Leiden, The Netherlands, where it will be played during evensong and for concerts.
