School
closes with holy gifts for children
THERE was a special closing assembly for St Stephen’s C of
E Primary School, Offerton, Stockport, this summer.
Some 50 children attended and heard words of thanks by acting head of
two years Deborah Meredith (pictured with Stockport education director Ed Blundell
and two pupils – photograph courtesy of the Stockport Express).
There was also a talk of thanks for the school’s work from the Vicar of
St Alban’s, the Revd Canon Bob Reid.
The Vicar of Norbury, the Revd Martin Collins, gave the address. The
children performed a play and told their own memories of school life.
Parents, governors and friends of the school attended.
Each pupil was presented with a copy of the Bible from the governors.
Reluctantly, a decision was taken earlier this year to close the
school, following a dramatic fall in the numbers of children attending. In
recent times there have been only some 50 children using a school build for
210.
