Could ‘C3’ B4U?

A NEW initiative has been set up for the Stockport area called C3. It aims to be a new sort of church.

C3 derives its name from Christ, Community and Creativity. Its leader is the Church of England priest the Revd Tony Hardy, who lives in Marple, and who works for the Church Pastoral Aid Society.

He told CDN: “We are setting up groups involving all kinds of creativity. We want these to help people who don’t usually go to church to explore their creativity and spirituality and in doing so create a new church across the wider Stockport area.”

The project is part of the ‘Fresh Expressions’ movement within the Church of England nationally.

C3 has organised three local groups so far: making greeting cards in Marple; doing arts and crafts in Heaton Norris (across the border in Manchester Diocese); and making leaded, coloured glass windows, also in Marple.

A music technology and recording group is the next group to be launched, this time to be based in Stockport town.

Other ideas are for creativity groups covering activities as diverse as scuba diving, painting, motorcycle maintenance and poetry.

Mr Hardy said: “We in C3 are fed up with Church being a club for Christians. We don’t think it has to be like that.”

The groups mix Christian people with unchurched people. C3 has official backing from our Diocese and the active support of the Bishop of Stockport.

Anyone wishing to get involved should telephone Mr Hardy on  0161 612 3404. Or visit the website
