A welcome second visit from Melanesia is planned
THE Melanesian brothers (and some sisters) are coming to the Diocese for a second mission next year. A group of some 20-plus Melanesians are due to arrive in Chester at the end of April next year (2005), following the huge success of the previous visit in June 2000. They are coming to update Christians in our Diocese about the continuing strength of the Anglican faith in the Solomon Islands. The Anglican Province of Melanesia covers the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The Province has been linked with and supported by the Diocese of Chester since 1988. The Melanesians will stay together at weekends in parish halls around the Diocese during their month-long visit. During their visit they will stay in pairs with local families as they work in parishes and church youth clubs. Having a large group of visitors is proving an organisational challenge for the Diocesan Melanesian Steering Group. “If anyone wants to help, particularly with transport, I’d be delighted to hear from them,” said Mrs Alison Sparham, the steering group’s coordinator. Mrs Sparham’s telephone number is 01625 523127. Her email is tsparham@fish.co.uk
