Woodchuirch School C of E Academy status

undefined Woodchurch High School (pictured) in Wirral has become a full Church of England Academy. The change in the secondary school's status became official only recently.

As an Academy, the school is directly-funded by the Government – rather than by the local Wirral Council, as was the case previously.

Woodchurch High School achieved Academy status in 2012 before also becoming a full C of E establishment on 14 April 2014.

The desire and the work to link the former state school to the Church has its roots in the early 1990s. A great deal of reform within the schools sector has taken place since then.

Jeff Turnbull, our Diocesan Director of Education, said: “We’re delighted that this school, which provides wonderful, rounded education for the children in the area, has become part of the church family”.

Woodchurch High School, a Church of England Academy is located in new buildings on a well-equipped campus by the M53 motorway, a few miles from Birkenhead.
