Tactile Tour

undefinedSaint Matthew's church in Edgeley, Stockport, invited the local community a while back to experience church differently through touch, sight, smell, sound and taste. A Tactile Tour' was offered ...

Working in partnership with Walthew House – a local independent charity which supports people who have sight or hearing loss – the tour at the church was well received by local people.

And recently the parish was asked to put on the event again – this time at Walthew House, by taking items from church to the adults. It was a big success, using items such as clergy robes, a chalice and paten, crosses, and even fragrant frankincense and myrrh.

A specially made model of the church was also used – so people could feel the shape of the building. And tambourines and drums helped make a joyful noise to the Lord!

Pam Robinson, parish Community Development Manager, said: “Members of the group thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A lady called Judy said that she found ‘learning about the different rituals and artefacts interesting’.”

Vicar the Revd David Brewster said: "I am delighted that we are being welcomed into our community and being able to share the traditions of our faith."

If your group would like to experience the Tactile Tour, please phone Pam Robinson on 07909 903 864 or email pamrobinson1966@gmail.com
