undefinedThe choir of St Oswald's church, Malpas (pictured)sang Evensong at Chester Cathedral. The choir sang the Canticles in F by George Dyson, featuring soloists Robyn Jones and John Smith.

The anthem was Do Not Be Afraid by former Chester Cathedral assistant organist Philip Stopford. The psalm was sung to a chant by the former cathedral organist Roger Fisher.

The choir was conducted by its Director of Music, Stewart Smith. The organist was James Andrews (from St Werburgh’s church, Chester). Rector Ian Davenport said that history was made at the service on 21 December, as there was no record of the choir ever singing a cathedral service on its own.

Stewart Smith said: “I’m very proud of the choir’s achievements and hard work leading up to all the services this Christmas. It’s a privilege to work with such a loyal and close-knit team of talented singers.”
