St. George's Stockport commemorates battle of St. Julien.

RSS

On 31st July 1917, in the battle of St. Julien, near Ypres, over 100 men from Stockport were killed with many more wounded. It was Stockport's worst day of the 1st World War. Every year the Cheshire Regiment's Stockport Association commemorates the event, on the nearest Sunday, with a service in St. George's church. However, as this year is the centenary of the battle, St. George's along with the Cheshire's Association are producing various events as well as the traditional service, to honour the soldiers who fought in the battle and to try and show younger generations what life must have been like for those men. Tickets for all events are available from St. George's church or from Eventbrite.
