Special day with a Palestinian flavour

A day of talks has been arranged for those who are contemplating leading or taking part in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the next year or two. The 'Come and See' day has been organised by the Friends of Sabeel, who include Peter Harrison, a Reader at St Thomas's Church, Mellor.

Peter is pictured right with the Revd Graham Hawley, a minister at Ridge Metholdist Church, Marple, who is also a member of the Friends.

Sabeel is a Christian peace organisation founded and run by the Revd Naim Ateek – a canon of St George's Cathedral in Jerusalem, who lives and works in Bethlehem.

‘Come and See' will be be held in November. The main speaker will be George Rishawi, a Palestinian Christian and non-violent peace activist from Beit Sahour in the West Bank and director of the Siraj centre for Palestinian Studies.

The aim of the day is to encourage people to 'encounter' Palestinians of the West Bank along while visiting Christian and Jewish historical sites. There will be representation of tour organisers and other interested groups there.

The event is being held on Saturday 3 November  10am to 4pm, at St.Theresa's Social Club, College Road, Up Holland (near Wigan), Lancs., WN8 0PY. The cost is £5. Drinks will be provided but please bring your own food. Further information available from Peter Harrison by telephone at 0161 427 6542 or by e-mail docpeterlh@gmail.com
