Roger Preece announced Archdeacon Aug 2015

undefinedThe Revd Roger Preece, Vicar Of Bowdon, is to become the new Archdeacon of St Helens and Warrington in the Diocese of Liverpool. Roger has been leading the ministry team at Bowdon in our diocese since 2008. The parish is held as a model of good practice by the Church Growth Team of the Church of England.

With a number of congregations that worship in different ways, from formal cathedral-style choral evensong through to ‘cafe church’, Bowdon parish has also invested in youth and children, with more than 200 teenagers connecting to different parts of church life.

Roger has a strong interest in leadership and has worked with the Revd Dr Simon Walker's teaching material on Undefended Leadership, nationally and internationally

Along with two other new Archdeacons announced for the Liverpool diocese (Jennifer McKenzie for Wigan and West Lancashire, and Pete Spiers for Knowsley and Sefton), Roger is due to be collated at Liverpool Cathedral on Saturday 14 November – providing all legal processes can be completed in time.

As Archdeacon, Roger will work to achieve the Liverpool diocese’s Fit for Mission initiative and its growth agenda. He worked as a management consultant in financial markets before he was ordained. He is married to Catherine (a chaplain at two Methodist care homes). They have three children, aged from 16 to 20.

Roger said: "My new ministry will be a very challenging role, and it is going to be hard to leave Bowdon, where as a family we have all felt so welcome and have enjoyed seeing the local church flourish is so many different ways.

“We have a fantastic team of ordained and lay, paid and volunteer, leaders who I know will lead the parish well during the vacancy. I’m so grateful for all the words of encouragement that have been given to me since the announcement.”

Bishop Libby said: "Roger will bring his breadth of experience, and considerable gifts, to this new role in the Diocese of Liverpool. I delight with him upon his appointment. He, the family, and the Archdeaconry of St Helens and Warrington, will be in my prayers as he moves into this next stage of ministry."

Bishop Peter added: "Roger has had an outstanding ministry at St Mary's, Bowdon, characterised in particular by a blending of traditional and newer forms of parish life. We will miss him and his family, but it's good to know that he is not moving far. I wish him every blessing in his new ministry."
