Radio 4 broadcast from Chester Cathedral

undefinedChester Cathedral will take centre stage on Easter Day this year as they play host to a BBC Radio 4 service broadcast.

Chester Cathedral Choir will be singing Charles Villiers Stanford’s Communion Service in B flat and Dic nobis Maria by Giovanni Bassano, under the direction of the cathedral’s Director of Music Philip Rushforth.  They will accompanied by the quintet Inspired Brass and organist Benjamin Chewter.

The newly-installed Bishop of Stockport, Revd Libby Lane, will be the preacher.    Earlier this year, Libby was the first woman to be consecrated a Bishop of the Church of England.

The Holy Communion broadcast will air at 8.10am on BBC Radio 4 on Easter Day.

As usual, Chester Cathedral has a packed Holy Week and Easter schedule for 2015.  Special events include a devotional service with readings led by Vice Dean Canon Peter Howell-Jones at 12 noon on Good Friday, an Easter vigil led by the Bishop of Stockport at 8.00pm on Easter Saturday and a festival of lessons and carols for Easter at 6.30pm on Easter Day.
