With them in the top row of the photograph are: Bishops Peter, Libby and Keith; Archdeacons Ian and Mike; Diocesan Registrar Helen McFall; and preacher at the service David Day (former principal of St John‘s College, Durham, and author of the widely-used ‘Preaching Workbook’); Honorary Assistant Bishops Graham Dow and John Hayden; and Bishop’s Chaplain John Hine. In the lower group with the newly priested are our Diocesan Director of Ordinands (DDO) Magdalen Smith and Assistant DDO Lorraine Reed. Photograph by Simon Warburton.

Towards the end of the service the newly-ordained priests were invited to stand, and Bishops Keith and Libby gave to each a Bible, saying: “Receive this book, as a sign of the authority which God has given you this day to preach the gospel of Christ and to minister his holy sacraments.”

The new priests were sent out to these words: “God who has called you is faithful. May the Father, whose glory fills the heavens, cleanse you by his holiness and send you to proclaim his word.

“May Christ, who has ascended to the heights, pour upon you the riches of his grace.”
