Open Day at St George's church, Stockport

undefinedPlanning is underway for the Heritage Open Day to be held at St George's church, Heaviley, Stockport. It's a magnificent, neo-gothic, grade 1 listed building, and something of a landmark on Buxton Road.

The open day will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 September. The church’s postcode is SK2 6NU, if that helps with route-planning for visitors from further afield.

Visitors can explore the magnificent architecture, furnishings and history of the place. Various aspects and artefacts are open for public examination.

St George’s was described by Archbishop Fisher as “the finest church built since the Reformation”. Those who feel adventurous can climb 200-plus steps to the top of the tower and enjoy the views of Cheshire and the Pennines. There is a newly restored set of 49 hand bells, available for playing on the open day, and there will be live organ music.

The day begins with a free cafe concert and book sale. St-George-Stockport for more about this church and its activities. For more details of the Heritage Open Day phone the parish office on 0161 480 2453.
