New Bishop of Liverpool announced May 2014

undefinedThe Rt Revd Paul Bayes (pictured) currently the Bishop of Hertford is to be the eighth Bishop of our neighbouring Diocese of Liverpool. His appointment was announced by 10 Downing Street.

The Bishop of Chester, the Rt Revd Dr Peter Forster, said: “I am delighted with the news of Paul Bayes’ appointment.  He will receive a very warm welcome to the North West, and bring many gifts to the Diocese of Liverpool.”

Bradford-born Bishop Paul studied drama at the University of Birmingham before training for ordination in the late 1970s. He is married to Kate, a drama teacher and lay reader. They have three adult children.

Bishop Paul was introduced to Liverpool at a local food bank. He said: "This is a great city and a great region with great people. It deserves a great church. I’m beginning to learn just how much the people of our Diocese, alongside our friends and colleagues from other Christian traditions, contribute to this fantastic community.”
