Farewell to Mark Montgomery

undefinedAfter nearly 14 years of faithful service as Diocesan Youth Officer, Mark is now preparing for a new post in ministry in Diocese of Rochester. A presentation of cycling equipment tokens was made to pedal power enthusiast Mark at a special farewell gathering held at Church House, Daresbury, recently.

Mark has now moved back to his native Kent where he is due to be licensed on 29 September as Missioner for Kings Hill, near Maidstone, and Associate Priest locally.

During his time in our diocese Mark saw many changes in his personal and professional life.  One of Mark’s first actions was to request time off – for his wedding to Kirsty and their honeymoon.
Mark and Kirsty have worked and worshipped in Chester, Nantwich and Wirral. During their time in our diocese, Mark was called to the ordained ministry. While this calling was substantially in youth ministry, Mark also served in parish ministry at St Mary’s, Upton, and Tranmere St Paul with St Luke, also in Wirral.

We have celebrated with Mark and Kirsty the birth and development of their much loved daughter, Isabella, who starts school this year.

Throughout his time in our dioicese Mark demonstrated a strategic mind and a heart for sharing the Gospel with young people. He is recognised internationally as an authority on young people in the Church and is a published author on the subject.

Our Director of Education Jeff Turnbull said: “Mark’s energy and determination to make disciples of young people will be greatly missed. We wish him and his family every blessing.”

Mark said: "I’ve loved working for the Diocese of Chester for the past twelve years. It’s been a real honour and privilege. I’m thankful for the support received from staff in Church House, our volunteers, and the senior staff who encouraged the work to flourish with young people.

"It’s been really great to see young people develop in faith and life, and to see many now leading their own ministries as priests or church leaders. As a family we will miss North West England – as it's where we have spent our whole married life until now – but  are looking forward to new challenges in Kent."
