undefinedA collection of 55 poems exploring the ancient walls of Chester, by Julia McGuinness, has been published. The walls have long held a fascination for Julia, who's a member of St Thomas and All Saints church in Ellesmere Port, where she is married to the Rector, the Revd Canon Gordon McGuinness.

Chester City Walls: A Poet’s Mosaic is published by Poetry Space at £7.95 and is available here.

Julia is a former English language and literature teacher who is now a counsellor and creative writing tutor. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Manchester Metropolitan University. See her website www.creativeconnectionscheshire.co.uk

Among the poems in her new book are several under the overlapping title of  ‘Traversing’ which explores the very different atmospheres along various sections of Chester’s ancient walls. There is also a sonnet about the Mayor of Chester’s daughter who eloped in 1573.

Chester City Walls: A Poet’s Mosaic will have its launch event at Alexanders’s bar in Rufus Court, Chester, on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 8pm. It’s a free event open to all.
