Ian Watmore joins Church Commisioners 2014

undefinedThe Queen has approved that Ian Watmore be appointed a Church Commissioner in succession to the Canon John Andrew Spence. Ian recently took up his new role. Cheshire-based Ian has a civil service background, having held Permanent Secretary posts under three Prime Ministers; first at the Delivery Unit of Number 10 Downing Street then at the department now known as Business, Innovation and Skills, and latterly at the Cabinet Office.

Ian (pictured)  – who is married to the Revd Georgina Watmore (Curate at St Peter’s church, Hale, and St Elizabeth church, Ashley) – has an MA in mathematics and management from Trinity College Cambridge, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Westminster.

The Church Commisioners manage a well-diversified investment portfolio to produce money to support the Church of England's work and buildings across the country. The commissioners were formed from the union in 1948 of two earlier bodies – Queen Anne's Bounty and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners.
