Gold chruches 2013

undefinedThe sixth annual Cheshire Churches Golf Tournament took place at Heyrose Golf Club, Tabley, Knutsford, recently. Eighty-eight golfers from all over Cheshire took part on a blisteringly hot day which challenged stamina as well as technique. Amongst the victors were the players from St George's Poynton (pictured) who won the Team Competition.

Playing for St George’s were the Vicar and Rural Dean of Cheadle, the Revd Rob Mclaren and the Revd John Briggs (formerly Vicar of St Michael’s Macclesfield but now in active retirement at Poynton).

Presenting the prizes was Jessica Wilkes Reading, Fund Raising Manager at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford. She spoke about the work of the hospice.  The day raised £1,320 which has been split between St Luke’s and East Cheshire Hospice.

The Revd Jonathan Gibbs, Rector of Heswall, spoke during the event about his own love of golf and the hope we all have in Christ.

Archdeacon Ian Bishop, who is part of the organising group,  said : “The day is about three things – bringing golfers together from across Cheshire to enjoy a great day, raising money for a very good cause, and offering the opportunity for Christian golfers to use their love of golf as a vehicle to demonstrate their love of Christ to those who came and played and yet haven’t yet quite grasped the same hope.

“It was a terrific day and we’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament..”
