Chris and John BowersCycling Canon John Bowers will soon set off again to raise money for a good cause. In July he will be joined by his son Chris for a sponsored pedal-powered pilgrimage to Ireland. Last year it was John's daughter Ruth, who helped him raise £16, 600 with a ride to Keswick. This year Chris will join John, who is a retired priest in our diocese.

The pair hope to visit to visit the remains of the 6th century monastery on Skellig Michael – an island off the west coast of Ireland – as part of a 200-mile ride around West Ireland looking at places of early Christian interest.

It will be John’s sixth annual cycle ride in a row, and once again the proceeds will go to the Barnabas Fund to help feed, clothe and educate the girls in Kenya, and to protect as many as possible from the ritual of genital mutilation, and to care for those who have been affected.

CDN readers have been generous supporters of John’s efforts in the past. If you wish to support him this summer, please send cheques, made payable to Barnabas Fund,  to Canon John Bowers, at 2 Shalford Grove West Kirby, CH48 9XY.  There will be no deductions from your gift. Please say if your donation is to be Gift Aided.
