Church Army work praised Oct 2014

undefinedCommunity leaders and supporters from around Cheshire gathered to celebrate the work of Church Army and the positive impact it is having in our diocese. More than 90 people attended the celebration event at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port to hear about the community and outreach work.

Outreach work in our diocese includes a bus project for young people and vulnerable people and a canal boat project working with men and young offenders.

The bus and canal boat projects are run by the Rob Barker, Colin Harris and James Wilkinson – just three of the Church Army evangelists who work out of Ellesmere Port to serve our diocese.

Present at the recent celebration were: Ellesmere Port and Neston MP Andrew Miller; the Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Brian Jones; Chief Inspector of Cheshire Constabulary, Giles Orton; and councillors Justin Madders and Nicole Meardon; plus young people and volunteers.

The theme of the evening was partnership and unity and how thanks to this lives are being changed by the gospel.

Andrew Miller MP said: “The work done by so many people in Church Army touches many lives, the volunteers demonstrate their own understanding and empathy for those who find themselves facing difficult situations. I was impressed by the commitment and the results of this group of dedicated people, both locally and further afield in the North West.”

Lana, a student who visits the Church Army bus project regularly, said: “I used to spend a lot of time hanging around the park as there was nothing else to do, but one day I was walking along and saw the bus. Since then I’ve been coming along regularly and chilling out with my friends. The bus is definitely something we’re lucky to have.”

Church Army is a charity affiliated with the Church of England which is committed to sharing the Christian faith through words and action with those in need across the United Kingdom and Ireland. To find out more about its work visit
